WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR AN ABDOMINOPLASTY?

A good candidate for abdominoplasty is a person who has not been able to get that toned abdomen muscle even after exercise and dieting. Many women after pregnancy find that there abdomen does not go back to the way it was before bieng pregnant and only surgical intervention will build that abdomen they want to get back. Consider getting an abdominoplasty if your abdomen has:

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE ABDOMINOPLASTY?

The surgery is done with general anesthesia through an epidural injection (like the ones used for labor). Sedatives are used throughout the whole procedure for your well-being.

The abdominoplasty may last two to four hours depending on the work required and if it is combined with liposuction. Once the incision is done, the skin over your abdomen is raised till your belly button. The belly button is cut loose from the skin and left in its natural position. An incision is done over the new skin for the belly button. The abdomen muscles are stretched with thick stitches, to help reduce your waist. The excess skin and fat is eliminated and the incision is closed. The results might be hidden by the inflammation and standing up might be complicated until all wounds are completely healed. The scars of women who have gotten c-section can be incorporated in the new scar. The results will be a flat abdomen with better muscle tone. The candidates for abdominoplasty must commit to stay in his/her ideal weight for better results.

MY RECOVERY

The recovery time may vary depending if you combine the abdominoplasty with another procedure such as liposuction, breast lift, and change of breast image or breast augmentation. Make plans to rest for a week after the surgery. It might be possible that you will need to use a corset underneath your clothes for a couple of weeks and required some rest, not doing any extraneous activities or lifting any objects. You can go back to work after 7 to 14 days after the surgery. Vigorous exercise must not be done for 4 to 6 weeks after the abdominoplasty.
